What is a sump pump?

Basically, a sump pump is a submersible pump that rests in a sump pit below your house’s foundation. Normally, a sump pump is located either at the lowest point in your basement, or close to the main drain.

When the water below your house trickles into the sump pit by way of a perimieter drain system of perforated drainpipes, the sump pump’s float switch is activated and the water is pumped out.

You can set a pre-determined level of water for your pump to activate.

New or existing house

Most new houses in Winnipeg will come equipped with a pre-installed sump pump. If you’re building a new house, this is definitely a feature that you should include.

However, a lot of existing Winnipeg homes do not have sump pumps. Dean’s Plumbing & Heating can help you out by retrofitting a sump pump for your home.

After digging out your sump pit, and installing the sump pump, there are two options for connecting it. You can either hardwire it into your home’s electrical system or plug it into an outlet.
