Good quality faucets that last a long time and are aesthetically pleasing are not cheap by any means. You’re looking at at least $100. That’s why it’s important to make sure your faucet installation is perfect. The last thing you want is a faucet that leaks six months after installation. We recommend looking into a Moen or Delta.

And if you have existing faucets that are leaking that are still in good condition, you’ll want to get that fixed before it causes water damage to your home and costs you even more money. It might be a good time to make an upgrade if your faucets aren’t all that great.

Faucet Types

The first step in installing or repairing your bathroom faucet is figuring out which type you have:

  • Compression
  • Disk
  • Cartridge
  • Ball

From there, you will know how to go about installing the faucet or repairing it. Remember, before any work is done, make sure you have turned off your water shut off valves.

How do you do know which faucet type you have?

The first question to answer is if you have a single handle or two handles. Single handles control the hot and cold water temperatures, while the double handle has one for each temperature.

Single faucet handles are either disc, ball or cartridge faucets. Two handles faucets are probably compression.

  • Bathroom sink faucets
  • Shower faucets
  • Bathtub faucets

Outdoor Faucet Installation & Repair

We use our outdoor faucets for a ot of things. Being in Winnipeg, that could mean floodin gthe backyard ice rink in the winter. We also use them for watering the grass in the summer, pressure washing the driveway and windows, or washing the car.

But being outside, these faucets can be sensitive to the temerature changes and outdoor elements. If they get damaged, you could be looking at a flooded basement or high water bills.

A common cause of damage is not performig the proper winter maintenance on your outdoor faucets.

Tips for buying faucets:

  • For faucets that focus on conserving water, look for the WaterSense label
  • Low-flow aerators control the flow of water while adding air into the stream, which allows the water pressure to stay consistent
  • We all love a shower with pressure, but we don’t like that nagging feeling of using too much water. With a low-flow shower head with the WaterSense label, as you will get the pressure and use less water.
